Te Reo, Term 4 2016.

This term we have been learning all about the Marae. We have learned that…….

  • The Marae is an important focal point for the community.
  • The Marea is a place where tradition and customs can be carried out.
  • The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
  • There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
  • Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.


We have focussed on some key concepts when doing this learning.
These are listed and explained in the table below.

Student Council-Leadership Excellence.

On Wednesday I had student council,at the start Mrs Trotter wasn't their so Hannah started it by doing the roll Then we talked about what will happen with the school in the future and what is going to be in the classes. Then we talked about what we can have e.g a Tech block or Drinking fountains next to the field.

I showed Leadership by controlling the meeting.

Kapahaka-Exellence

Today we didn't have any of our normal teachers there, We started by singing our school song and practicing the actions. Then we moved on to another song where everyone had to step forward the Year 4's in the front kept messing up so we had to keep repeating it until they got it right. Then Kapahaka ended so the Year 8 boys stayed and kept learning the long rakau.

Student council-Leadership Exellence

Today I had student council, About two minutes before I found out I was running student council today.When we got their I got Mrs martin to tell me and Dylan what to talk about. Then we went to the hall foyer and started.We started by talking about the learner dispositions and asking if they knew what they meant then we asked if the wanted any extra activity's at school.

Kauri Team Events

Today we had the teachers vs year 7/8 basketball players play each other
In netball. We stood next to the court and the year 7/8 B team played the 
teachers first.  We started to cheer on the teachers and the teachers won the game. 
So we decided to cheer for the students in the next game when the year 7/8 A
team played and at the end of that the teachers won again.

 I showed leadership by not being silly when cheering on the teams.

Kapahaka-Excellence badge

Today at kapahaka we started by singing The school song then we started to practice our transitions between the different songs, we did that for a while Then The Year 8 boys started to practice the Long rakau We went over the things that we already knew and we caught some others up then we started to try be in time with each other. After that we had to go back inside and keep practising our transitions, Then the bell rang and we had to leave.
