  • The Marae is a place where people can express their values with dignity.
  • There are many kawa ( protocols) that prevail on the marae.
  • Marae kawa (protocols) can differ between maraes and iwi.

We have focussed on some key concepts when doing this learning.
These are listed and explained in the table below.

Concept

give the meaning of these concepts in your own words.

  • The opposition leader sits on the 4th seat on the left
  • The Depute Prime Minister sits on the 3rd seat on the right

THE WATER CYCLE

THE WATER CYCLE

INTRODUCTION

The water cycle is a process that water goes through between land, sea and air; the water is recycled during this process. There are five key stages of the water cycle: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff and groundwater.

EVAPORATION

One of the key stages in the water cycle is evaporation, evaporation is when the sun heats the water in the ocean, lakes and rivers around the world then the water turns into water vapour (gas). The process of evaporation is invisible to the human eye, also On warmer days evaporation happens faster, because the sun heats the water more. The water changes state from a liquid to a gas.Once the water has turned into vapour it turns into condensation.

CONDENSATION/PRECIPITATION

Condensation is when the water vapour condenses into little water droplets into clouds which makes precipitation. The water vapour can't stay as a gas in the cold air so it condenses into water droplets, then it makes lots of different types of precipitation, e.g: rain, snow, hail and sleet. The water vapour goes from a gas to a liquid. The next step in the process is runoff/ ground water.

RUNOFF/GROUND WATER

Runoff is the draining away of water from the surface of a building, land or a structure. When the ground-water hits something like clay (that it can't go through) the water builds up and eventually it goes up through the ground and creates a spring of water, but only some water soaks through the ground. Most water flows over land down hill to a lake, ocean or river.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion there are five main stages to the water cycle, the water is recycled during the process of the water cycle. Also the water cycle is crucial to our survival.

I can recognise and understand a variety of grammatical constructions and some rhetorical patterns

In this unit I have been learning about:
  • The parts of speech.
  • The types of nouns.
  • The types of sentences.

In this unit, I found challenging the test because I hadn't learnt the things in it for a while.

Something new I learnt was what a Preposition is.

Care

I have done a check of my CARE progress so far this year.

I am proud of my progress because I have almost got my bronze.

How far away are you from reaching your BRONZE 10 ticks

The area of CARE that I need to try harder in C / A / R / E Because I have the least amount of ticks in.

To achieve my BRONZE/SILVER award quicker I need to log my ticks.

The one thing that I can do to improve my progress in CARE is log my ticks.

We will review CARE progress again at the end of the term.

Using a range of multiplicative strategies

In Maths we have been learning to use a range of multiplicative strategies when operating with whole numbers.

The strategies we have been learning are:

- Estimate the reasonableness of large problems like 1 788 – 891. Could 497 be right?
- Use multiplication to solve addition and subtraction problems eg.
  64 – 48 = as (8 x 8) – (6 x 8) = 2 x 8= 16
- Use doubling / halving, trebling/ thirding and adjusting to solve multiplication problems,
 eg.  12 x 50 solved as 4 x 150= 600
- Use an algorithm to solve multiplication problems.
- Solve problems using simple cube numbers .
- Use an algorithm to solve division problems.

Here is a link to my Multiplicative Strategies Assessment which shows that I know why and how I use particular strategies. This doc also has screenshots to show which IXL activities I have completed as part of my learning.Link to assessment task

My next step in my Maths Learning is to start measurement

Short Story

For this piece of writing I have focussing on my vocabulary and punctuation. I have been learning to: -
  • use a range of precise vocabulary to communicate meaning (Year ⅞)
  • use all basic punctuation independently and attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses) (Year 7/8)

The pieces of my writing that are highlighted green are where I have shown my vocabulary and punctuation goal

The Hunt

“Steph Curry with the pop’ I yelled as Curry sunk a three in his small New York apartment, then it cut to Breaking news as he heard a bang nearby followed by screams
He ran to his window and saw the destruction that is the city. Then he ran down stairs outside to the police department.

I grabbed my gear and bolted into the car and then speed off down the road to Times Square. It was a grid lock on the motorway so hopped out and ran the rest of the way about 4 kilometres.
When I finally got to Times Square there was destruction and chaos everywhere people with cuts down their body people crying, some missing things like arms and legs thousands of people were in shock and in unbelievable pain and all I did for about a minute was stand in shock looking at the destruction and terror.

Then I went and helped with getting people out from under the Rubble and with the crowd control and when I was on the rubble I saw a intact security camera I ran over and took the memory card out then took it back to the makeshift setup with the computer the computers then we spot a person putting a bag down and walking away without it “Hey,wait go back a second, right there” as I point at a man with a bag in his about to put it on the ground. “Put the city in lockdown, the guy who did this could still be here, put his picture all over the city, could you tell me if you get a sighting from the public’ I said.

About one hour later we got a reported sighting of the guy by the statue of liberty I raced over to the  statue of liberty. When i got there I couldn’t see him in the crowd so I went to the outskirts of the crowd and spotted him then I yelled “Hey!” Then he ran and then I yelled “stop”then he ran to one of the boats that was going to the Statue of Liberty and he hoped on after chasing him I called for back up and then I jumped from the dock on to the boat as it was leaving and then we had a fist fight in the middle of the boat. Then we docked and then ran after he punched me in the stomach once I got of the ground I ran after him
then I saw him holding a man by the neck with a gun pointed at him he y lied “stop, don't take another step”. After a 2 minute stalemate I took another step then he shot the man and me in the foot  and dropped his and ran up the Statue of Liberty after groning in pain for about 3 minutes I got up and walked up the stairs.

Once I got to the top saw him sobbing and said sorry and then... he jumped through the day indie in the crown then I heard screams from the bottom of the statue. I went down and then I saw people putting him in body bag then I got badged up and got crouches then went back to the station to a round of applause from everyone there and they started calling me a hero. Three months later I could start helping with the rebuild of the city and after I got awarded a medal for bravery.
